In the classroom
This was taken during Caitlin's first day of school at St. Jude. In the background you can see her Chinese teacher on the left and English teacher on the right. She's having fun at school!

Analysis of Barack Obama's Inaugural Speech
I ran a word frequency analysis of Barack Obama's speech. It shows the key words that define the inspirational theme of a speech. Here are the words: OUR, WE, NATION, ALL, AMERICA, EVERY, PEOPLE, TODAY, WORLD, NOW, GENERATION, WORK, COMMON, SPIRIT, POWER, HARD, SEEK, CRISIS, PEACE, GREATER. Having words like these in a speech by another leader would probably have a similar effect if delivered well.
Is speech-writing art or science? How would a speech made by an automated speech generator compare to a hand crafted speech?

My Ibanez Acoustic
Finally got a nice acoustic for my amateur playing. My standard for the best sounding acoustic was the one of my college roommate Wowie Aguilar. The AW28 is a well made instrument with a full sound.

Lake Caliraya
We just came back from a trip to Lake Caliraya, a man made lake that has a couple of resorts around it. This is Camarin, a resort owned by Napocor, the government power company. We were there for a birthday celebration of Sharon's family.

Food in Taiwan Night Market
Took a shot of a food vendor's offerings in Taipei's Rao He night market. You eat and shop at night markets. This is a popular activity for both Taiwanese and visitors. I think the night market at Shi Ling is far better than this one.
Running in Ateneo Bellarmine field
Caitlin during weekends tells us, "I want to go to Dad's school." Her image of dad's school is running in the Bellarmine field. My memories of Bellarmine field is that of long Saturday afternoons of standing under the blistering sun in my 2 years of Citizen's Military Training (CMT).

First Honor
We just got the surprise of our lives when Caitlin was announced First Honor for the Nursery class! It was a class of 6 children and she got best in reading, language, chinese and computer. She was also awarded most behaved, which she probably got from her dad! I'm so proud of her.
It was a surprise because I wasn't able to teach her much except for the first 2 months of school. I guess it was her love of reading that drove her learning. She's now turning 4 by the end of May and we'll have to look for a big school when she turns 5.

Taking an MBA
I've decided to take an MBA after years of postponements. I took the entrance exam 3 weeks ago and realized that it was more than 10 years since I graduated from college. The exam was a nice way to wake up the brain cells that lay dormant through the years.
The schedule of classes in the Ateneo-Regis MBA program allow me to keep my day job. Classes start in 2 days. So far I've read 5 chapters of accounting. I need to write 2 papers for my first day in class. Meanwhile, I've posted bookmarks to suggested readings: http://del.icio.us/jgngo/manacc and http://del.icio.us/jgngo/ateneo
I enrolled in 2 subjects - Management Accounting and Management Dynamics this term. Classes are held once a week for 4 hours at a time. At a rate of 2 subjects a term, I should be able to finish the program in 14 months. Each term is only 8 weeks.
